LOVE LIFE ALBUM COMING 9/9/16

Voice Studio

My teaching style is relaxed, fun, and very personalized. I place emphasis on healthy vocal production and cultivating physical self-awareness that leads to grounded, confident singing. My students display a wide range of musical backgrounds and interests, from professional and amateur opera and choral singers, to singer-songwriters, music theater and rock/pop performers. I enjoy working with beginners of all ages, and do my best to make lessons comfortable and engaging for students who are new to vocal practice.

I am not a proponent of any one pedagogical method, but rather draw from my varied influences and experiences as a student, vocalist and music fan. These include classic Italianate vocalizes and breath techniques; five years of vocal training in the Oren Brown lineage; a year of voice and speech therapy work at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary; M.Mus. courses in vocal pedagogy; two decades fronting bands in genres ranging from funk to folk-rock; training in Yoga, Qigong, Feldenkrais, and Alexander techniques; and many enjoyable years of improvisation, trial and error.

VIRTUAL FORMAT

At this time I am offering lessons and coachings primarily online, using Zoom as well as other platforms including FaceTime, Skype and Google Meet. I am extremely thankful for the potential offered by these platforms to connect with students worldwide, and have been delighted with both the process and the results. I find the format of online teaching enables us to take a deep dive into technical skills such as breathing, resonance and vowel articulation. It’s also marvelous for exploring topics such as body posture, tongue/jaw tension, diction/language/translation, and experimenting with new repertoire and musical styles (in the virtual realm we can be limitless!)

In essence, what initially seemed to most of us a huge imposition has revealed itself to offer many unexpected advantages.

Wherever you live, no matter what kind of music you’re curious to explore, and whatever stage of your vocal journey you may be in, I’m certain I have something positive to offer you. Send me an email and let’s talk!

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

ABOUT ANN

Ann Moss has been teaching voice for over 25 years and is widely sought-out by singers of all ages and experience levels. She holds two graduate degrees in Vocal Performance and has had the honor of working with many of today’s best musicians and teachers in private studio and public workshop settings. In addition to her extensive performance career in many areas of classical singing, Ann has performed and recorded in popular genres including funk, folk-rock, and r&b.

Ann’s students range in age from 11 to 85, and display a wide range of vocal backgrounds, experience levels and goals. In addition to classical, choral, operatic and musical theater singers, Ann’s private studio includes pop, folk, bluegrass, liturgical, Irish trad, rock, punk and heavy metal vocalists. She has become known among singer-songwriters as a “one stop shop” for vocal and song-writing coaching, and enjoys this work immensely. She enjoys how the broad spectrum of vocal styles represented in her studio informs her teaching and artistry on every level. “In this age of genre blending and cross-pollination, the demands of contemporary vocal repertoire continually evolve. The skill-set required of a freelance vocalist today covers so much stylistic ground. It’s crucial to stay in touch with our ever-changing sonic landscape.”

Ann approaches each student as an individual, working with them to come up with a lesson format that best suits their particular needs. She is not a proponent of any one pedagogical method, but rather draws from her varied influences and experiences as a student, vocalist and listener. These include classic Italianate vocalizes and breath techniques; five years of vocal training in the Oren Brown lineage; a year of voice and speech therapy work at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary; the full MM course in vocal pedagogy as taught at the Longy School of Music; a decade fronting bands in genres ranging from funk to folk-rock; training in Yoga, Feldenkrais and Alexander techniques; and many enjoyable years of improvisation, trial and error.
